Driftless Area Land Conservancy Seeks National Seal of Excellence

Public Comment Period

“Excellence requires passion, focused effort and a belief that we’re making a difference in people’s lives,” shared David Clutter, executive director of Driftless Area Land Conservancy… “and it’s exciting to let folks know, particularly the landowners and local communities we serve, that we’re seeking a seal of excellence through a national accreditation process.”

Driftless Area Land Conservancy is a local non-profit conservation organization based in Dodgeville Wisconsin that is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the health, diversity and beauty of Southwest Wisconsin’s natural and agricultural landscape though permanent land protection and restoration, and improving people’s lives by connecting them to the land and to each other.

In the coming month Driftless will apply for first-time accreditation through the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance. The Commission conducts an extensive review of each applicant’s policies, programs and practices. The accreditation program recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands, forever.

A public comment period is now open. The Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how Driftless Area Land Conservancy complies with national quality standards. These standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust. For the full list of standards see http://www.landtrustaccreditation.org/tips-and-tools/indicator-practices.
