USH 12 Fatal Crash **UPDATED**

The following is an update on the fatal traffic crash which occurred on May 21, 2022 on USH 12 near Old 33 in the Town of Baraboo.  

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was Dawson T.D. Enge, age 20, of rural Lodi, WI.  Enge was traveling south in a northbound lane of USH 12 when the crash occured.  Enge was arrested on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.  Enge was transported to the Sauk County Jail and will remain in custody pending his initial appearance in Sauk County Circuit Court.  Numerous charges against Enge are being referred to the Sauk County District Attorney's Office to include Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle, Homicide by Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Cause Injury/Operate While Under the Influence and other lesser charges.

The passenger in Enge's vehicle was Drew A. Fjoser, age 23, of Rio, WI.  Fjoser was transported from the scene to a Madison hospital.  Later that morning, Fjoser died from injuries sustained in this crash.  

The driver of the Ford Bronco was Nicholas Pendelton, age 18, of Mauston.  The driver of the Ford Focus was Emily Tillinger, age 20, of Wisconsin Dells.   Both Pendelton and Tillinger were traveling north in the northbound lanes when Enge's southbound vehicle struck them.

This crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff's Office.  

 

 

NEWS RELEASE 

FATAL CRASH 

 

On Saturday, May 21, 2022 at approximately 01:39 a.m., the Sauk County Communications Center received a report of a three-vehicle crash on USH 12 near Old 33 in the Town of Baraboo, involving a wrong way driver in the Northbound lane.  Law Enforcement, Fire, and Emergency Medical personnel responded to the crash scene. 

The initial investigation showed that a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, operated by a 20-year-old male from Lodi, was Southbound in the Northbound lane of USH 12.  The Malibu struck a Northbound 2021 Ford Bronco operated by an 18-year-old male from Mauston and a Northbound 2014 Ford Focus operated by a 20-year-old female from the Wisconsin Dells. 

The 20-year-old operator of the Malibu was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later to a Madison area hospital.  A 23-year-old male from Rio, who was a passenger in the Malibu, was Med-Flighted from a local hospital to a Madison area hospital.  The 23-year-old-male later died at the Madison Area Hospital from a result of his injuries.      

The 20-year-old male operator of the Malibu was initially charged with Operating While Intoxicated causing injury.  Further charges are currently pending and this crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Baraboo Police Department, Baraboo District Ambulance Service, Baraboo Fire Department, Sauk Prairie Police Department, Sauk County Highway Shop, Dells-Delton EMS, UW-Health Med Flight, and Craigs Towing.
