USH 12 Fatal Crash

CAR VS DEER FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

 

On July 4, 2016 at approximately 6:51 p.m. the Sauk County Communications Center received notification of a car versus deer traffic accident on USH 12 south of Ski Hi Road in the Town of Sumpter.  The initial report was that the deer had penetrated the windshield of the vehicle and that the operator was injured.  Sauk County Sheriff’s Deputies, the Baraboo Fire Department, and the Baraboo District Ambulance Service were sent to the scene.

 

Initial investigation revealed that a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu operated by a 42 year old female from North Freedom, WI was traveling northbound on USH 12 and struck a deer that had entered the roadway.  The deer became airborne and entered the path of a southbound 2007 Buick Allure operated by a 65 year old male from Bloomington, MN.  The deer penetrated the windshield of the Buick and entered the passenger compartment of the vehicle striking the operator.  The male operator of the Buick sustained life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by Baraboo District Ambulance staff and his care was transferred to UW Med Flight.  The man was transported to the University of Wisconsin Hospital by UW-Med Flight where he was later pronounced deceased.

 

The names of both operators are being withheld at this time pending notification of family.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Baraboo Fire Department, the Baraboo District Ambulance Service, and UW Med Flight.  The Sauk County Coroner’s Office also assisted.  The accident remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.
