Update - Auto/Buggy Crash

Brian Daniels

On Sunday, February 25th at about 4:54 pm, Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies along with the Cazenovia Area Ambulance Service responded to a reported crash between a motor vehicle and a horse drawn Amish buggy in the Town of Ironton.

Initial investigation revealed that the motor vehicle that struck the buggy did not stop and did not return to the scene. The five occupants of the buggy sustained minor and non-life threatening injuries. The horse involved was injured badly enough that it had to be euthanized at the scene.

A license plate of the suspect vehicle was obtained, and the suspect vehicle was located later Sunday evening, with damage consistent with being in a collision, but the driver was not located with the vehicle.

On Monday morning, Sauk County Dispatch received a call from a man who identified himself as Brian Daniels, 38, from Cazenovia, WI, who reported that he was the driver involved in the crash and wished to turn himself in.

Mr. Daniels did so a short time later and was arrested on 5 counts of Hit and Run Causing Injury, each a felony charge punishable up to a $10,000 fine and/or up to 9 months in jail. He was booked into the Sauk County Jail and awaits a bail hearing at this time.

The investigation into this crash is continuing, to determine the impact of alcohol or drugs, if any, in this case, among other details.

The public is asked to call the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office at 608-355-4495 or Sauk County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-TIP-SAUK (1-888-847-7285) with any pertinent information regarding this crash.
