Town of Freedom Crash

Special News Release

On May 20, 2011 at approx. 6:18 pm, the Sauk County Communications Center received a phone call of a traffic accident on STH 136 between CTH PF and CTH I in the town of Freedom. It was reported that a semi tractor and trailer unit had rolled over spilling it’s load of liquid nitrogen.
North Freedom Fire, Baraboo EMS and the Sauk Co. Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.
The investigation revealed that semi tractor being driven by Bart Schyvinck of Reedsburg, had entered the curves and the load shifted on the flat bed trailer causing the semi tractor and trailer to turn over spilling it’s load of 2400 gallons of liquid nitrogen.
The operator Bart Schyvinck was not injured during the incident.
STH 136 was closed for approximately 5 ½ hours while the roadway was cleared and the surrounding area was cleaned up of the spilt liquid nitrogen under the supervision of the Department of Natural Resources.
