Structure Fire - West Baraboo

On Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 3:14 p.m. the Baraboo Fire Department, Baraboo District Ambulance Service, Delton Fire Department along with Sauk County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to 420 West Maple Street in West Baraboo for a reported structure fire.

Through Mutual Aid, the first arriving Baraboo Police Officer reported a working structure fire.

Upon arrival of first fire department unit, fire and heavy smoke was observed from the rear of the single story, single family home.

Fire Personnel on the first arriving Engine performed a transitional fire attack from the exterior and another crew of firefighters entered the front of the home and completed fire extinguishment.

The home is owned by Don Cone of Reedsburg and occupied by another family.  There was one adult male that suffered minor injuries from exposure to smoke.  Baraboo District Ambulance Personnel provided assistance to him.  There were no firefighter injuries.  Two cats were rescued from the fire, unfortunately one cat perished.

The home sustained moderate fire damage and is uninhabitable at this time.  The displaced family is staying with relatives.

Alliant Energy also assisted at the scene; securing the electric and gas supply to the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation cooperatively by the Baraboo Fire Department and the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department.
