Semi Tips Over on STH 154

News Release

On August 10, 2010 at 0649 am, the Sauk County Sheriff's Department received a motorist report of a semi-tractor trailer unit that had rolledover on STH 154 .2 miles east of Buckeye Road in the Town of Reedsburg, Sauk County. Upon arrival at the scene, responding deputies observed that a 2009 Kenworth semi-tractor and trailer had been traveling south on STH 154 negotiating a curve. The operator of the semi-tractor impacted with the guard rail and the trailer unit traveled down the west shoulder embankment causing the tractor trailer to overturn in the west shoulder. The trailer unit was loaded with 40,000 lbs of cheese/dairy products.

The operator was identified as Harold David Gow, of Missoula, Montana. The operator was trapped in the tractor unit and had to be extricated from the tractor. A juvenile 17 year old male passenger had been in the sleeper section of the tractor and was uninjured. Reedsburg Fire/Rescue and Ambulance responded to the scene with Rock Springs Fire and Rescue. The Sauk County Highway Department responded also and assisted in closing STH 154 for an extended period of time. The operator claimed the load in the trailer unit had shifted while he negotiated the curve in the highway causing the trailer unit to tip over. The operator was cited for failure to secure load in trailer unit, State Statute 348.10(5)(a). The operator was transported to Reedsburg Area Medical Center and released. Shields Towing assisted in salvage and recovery of the damaged tractor trailer unit.
