Reedsburg Man Charged with Substantial Battery

Special News Release

March 3, 2011

On 02/27/2011, at approximately 5:35 p.m., a Sauk County Deputy arrived at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center for a report of a subject receiving treatment for injuries received from a fight the previous night.

The victim was identified as Kurt R. Wohler, age 49, of Reedsburg. Wohler attended a party near the Village of LaValle with some friends to include the suspect in this case, Donald J. Turnmire, age 29, of Reedsburg. There were no apparent problems between Wohler and Turnmire at the party. According to witnesses, after the party Wohler, Turnmire and some other friends were getting ready to leave. Wohler was wrestling around outside the vehicle with a friend when Turnmire suddenly exited the vehicle and started punching Wohler several times in the face. Friends were able to separate the two and took Wohler to a friend’s house to get cleaned up as he did not want to go to the hospital for his injuries. The next day Wohler decided he did need to seek medical attention for his injuries and that is when law enforcement was notified of the disturbance.

On 02/28/2011, Donald Turnmire was arrested on a probation hold as a result of the fight and brought to the Sauk County Jail. He was questioned about the incident in which he admitted to hitting Wohler several times and was subsequently charged with Substantial Battery.
