Plane Makes Emergency Landing On USH 12

On 12/28/16 at approximately 12:30 PM the Sauk County 9-1-1 Center received a call of a plane crash on USH 12 at CTH Z in the Twp of Prairie Du Sac.  The investigation revealed that Stephan L Arnold, age 69, from Madison was operating a 1961 Cessna 172B near the Baraboo Bluffs when the aircraft lost power.   Arnold was able to land the air craft on USH 12 north of CTH Z.  Arnold was able to restore power to the air craft and attempted to take off but hit a road sign on USH 12 causing the aircraft to cross the median and come rest on the east side of the highway.

Arnold, along with a passenger were not injured and did not require any medical attention.  The air craft sustained moderate damage and was towed to the Sauk Prairie Airport by a private person.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Sauk City Fire Department, Sauk Prairie EMS, Sauk Prairie Police Department, Wis DOT, Sauk County Highway Department and the FAA.
