OWI #7, Drug Offenses

On Thursday, March 16th, 2023 at approximately 1:19 PM the Sauk County Dispatch Center received multiple traffic complaints on a possibly impaired motorist traveling north on Highway 12 near the intersection with County Road C in the town of Sumpter. The reporting parties informed dispatch there was a red pickup truck with a snow plow attached that was being driven in an erratic manner, going from the median of the roadway to the shoulder, continually crossing lanes of traffic.

A Sauk County sheriff's deputy located and stopped the suspect vehicle on Highway 12 south of the intersection with Highway 33. The suspect vehicle was determined to be a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado and the driver was identified through revoked Wisconsin driver's license as Chad Catlin, age 51 of Fitchburg, WI. Catlin initially provided deputies with a false name and while in contact with Catlin deputies observed signs of drugged impairment. Catlin made statements that he was a diabetic and his behavior may be due to a diabetic emergency so an ambulance was called to the scene to evaluate him. As a result of the investigation into Catlin, he was arrested for Operating while Intoxicated, 7th offense, Operating while Revoked, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Schedule I and II Narcotics. Catlin was transported to the Sauk County Jail and turned over to the custody of jail staff without incident.

Assisting the Sauk County Sheriff's Office at the scene were members of the Baraboo District Ambulance Service.
