OWI 6TH OFFENSE ARREST

 

On October 2, 2022 at approximately 3:17 a.m., the Sauk County Communications Center received a call about at vehicle stopped in traffic facing the wrong way on State Highway 136 near Scenic Rd in Excelsior Township. 

Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrived at that location within minutes and observed a red Volkswagen Bug with a male operator that was passed out behind the wheel. When the operator woke up, the vehicle rolled backwards into a squad car.  The operator was identified as Karl P. Breneman, age 37, of rural Hillpoint, WI.  Deputies observed signs of impairment.  Field sobriety tests were refused by Breneman.  The deputy learned that Breneman had 5 prior convictions for Operating While Intoxicated. 

Breneman was arrested and transported to the Sauk County Jail.

Charges of Operating While Intoxicated 6th offense, Felony Bail Jumping, Operating while Revoked, and Fail to install/Tamper with Ignition Interlock Device will be referred to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office. Breneman was also cited for multiple traffic citations.  The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Baraboo Police Department.
