Motor Vehicle Crash w/ Injuries - Weather Related

On Saturday, November 12th, 2022 at approximately 5:11 PM the Sauk County Dispatch Center received a report of a two vehicle crash on US Highway 12 near Moon Road in the township of Delton. It was reported there were two vehicles in the median of the divided highway with multiple people standing outside the vehicles.

The first Sauk County Deputy arriving on scene observed that there were five adults and two children standing in between the two vehicles in the median. The weather was a factor in the crash with the roadway being snow/ice covered and slippery. Shortly after arriving on scene while the Deputy was attempting to get the vehicle occupants safely into a squad car a third vehicle lost control and slid into the median, striking several of the pedestrians resulting in significant injuries with four being transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. This vehicle was reported to have been traveling approximately 65 miles per hour before losing control. The driver of the third vehicle was issued citations as a result of this incident and the crash remains under investigation.

With winter approaching, the Sauk County Sheriff's Office wants to remind motorists to drive with caution and due care. If you see a stopped emergency vehicle with emergency lights activated on the side of the road please remember to slow down and move over. If you are involved in a motor vehicle crash the safest place for you is to remain inside your vehicle with your seat belt on and to call 911 until emergency response services arrive on scene.

The Sauk County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by members of the Lake Delton Police Department, Lake Delton Fire Department, Dells Delton Ambulance Service, and the Baraboo Area Ambulance Service.
