September 7, 2011

Special News Release

On September 6, 2011 at 10:57 AM, the Sauk County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a farm accident off of Ableman Road, in the Township of Excelsior. The reporting party stated that a woman had been run over by a bobcat.

Upon arrival of the deputies it was found that Lavonne Astle, age 74, had been struck and run over by the operator of a bobcat. The investigation determined that operator of the bobcat, the husband of the victim, Raymond Astle, had seen his wife just prior to striking her but then lost sight of her as he was moving large round bales of hay. As he changed directions of the bobcat, opposite of where he had last seen his wife, he felt the bobcat jump and it was at this point realized he had run over Lavonne who also moved.

Lavonne Astle was pronounced dead at the scene by the Med-Flight doctor.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service and UW Med-Flight.
