Ice Rescue

On December 14, 2016 at approximately 10:36am the Sauk County Communications Center was notified that a subject had fallen through the ice on Dutch Hollow Lake in the Town of Woodland.  The caller stated there were people on scene that were attempting to form a human chain to help the subject out of the water.  LaValle Fire and First Responders, Wonewoc Fire, and Wonewoc Ambulance and the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team were immediately sent to the scene.

A short time later emergency personnel were informed that all of the subjects were out of the water and two subjects were being transported to Gunderson St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro.

The initial investigation revealed that five subjects were walking out onto Dutch Hollow Lake to ice fish.  Approximately 150 yards out from the Woodland boat landing one of the subjects, Lucas J. Tourdot, age 28 of Reedsburg fell through the ice.  Krue B. Meisel, age 20 of Reedsburg attempted to rescue Tourdot and he fell partially through the ice.  Cole K. Yerkes, age 24 of LaValle, Joanne J. Leader, age 25 of Reedsburg, and Jacob W. Meyer age 20 of Reedsburg, formed a human chain to pull Tourdot out of the water.  They were successful in getting the two subjects out of the water and safely to shore.  Tourdot and Meisel were transported to Gunderson St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro by Wonewoc Ambulance.  Yerkes, Leader, and Meyer were not injured in this incident.
