FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH – TOWN OF BARABOO

On June 5, 2021 at approximately 9:25 p.m., the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a single vehicle traffic crash on State Highway 136 east of Raven Acres Drive in the Town of Baraboo.  The initial caller reported that the vehicle had rolled and that they believed one person was deceased.  Baraboo District Ambulance Service, Baraboo Fire Department, and Sauk County Sheriff’s Office personnel were immediately sent to the scene.

The initial investigation shows that a Toyota pickup truck was westbound on STH 136.  The Toyota failed to negotiate a left hand curve in the roadway and began traveling on the gravel shoulder on the north side of the road.  The Toyota overcorrected upon reentering the roadway and traveled across both lanes, striking a guard rail on the south side of the road.  After colliding with the guard rail, the truck overturned and came to rest on its hood and roof.  The operator and sole occupant of the truck, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the truck.

The operator was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Sauk County Coroner’s Office.  The operator’s name is being withheld at this time pending notification of family.  The investigation into this crash is continuing by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Baraboo Fire Department, Baraboo District Ambulance Service,  Sauk County Coroner’s Office, and Craig’s Towing.
