Fatal Traffic Accident in the Township of Merrimac

News Release

On 06/26/10 at 4:39pm the Sauk County Communications Center received a call regarding a car versus motorcycle crash on STH 78 & STH 113 approximately 1/10 mile west of Idlewild Road in the Township of Merrimac. It was reported that 2 people were injured.

Upon completion of a preliminary investigation conducted by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department it was determined that the driver of the car, Megan A. Padley, age 24 of Baraboo, was eastbound on STH 78 & STH 113 ahead of the motorcycle. The motorcycle was operated by Guy Y. Gorsky, age 59 of Madison. Gorsky’s wife, Katherine K. Gorsky, age 62, also of Madison, was a passenger on the motorcycle. Padley made a U-turn on the highway in front of Gorsky, causing a collision and ejecting both riders from the motorcycle.

• Padley received minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.

• Guy Gorsky was transported by Sauk Prairie Ambulance to Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital, then on to UW Hospital in Madison with internal injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.

• Katherine Gorsky was transported from the scene by MedFlight to UW Hospital in Madison with severe head injuries. She was wearing a helmet.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in this crash. Charges have not yet been filed pending further investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department. The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Merrimac Fire Department and Sauk Prairie Ambulance.

 

UPDATE:  On 06/27/2010, Katherine Gorsky died from injuries received in this crash.  The Sauk County Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate.
