Crash

On Saturday, July 3, 2021, at about 2:18 am, A Sauk County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation on CTH T east of CTH A in the Township of Delton. As the Deputy approached the vehicle on foot to make contact with the driver, the vehicle with the operator and two passengers fled east on CTH T.

The Deputy returned to his patrol car and radioed that the vehicle had fled, that he would not be pursuing and remained at the original scene of the traffic stop for several minutes, after which the Deputy began to travel east on CTH T at normal posted speeds.

After only a short distance and around a curve, just into the Township of Fairfield, the Deputy came upon the vehicle that had fled, which was overturned after having crossed through the oncoming traffic lane while negotiating a curve and entering the ditch and wood line, rolling over and coming to rest on its roof.

The Deputy located one passenger who had been ejected, several feet from the vehicle, severely injured, another passenger, also ejected and who was partially pinned under the vehicle was deceased.

Additional Sheriff’s Deputies, Dells-Delton EMS and Lake Delton Fire, UW Med-Flight and the Wisconsin State Patrol were summoned immediately to the scene to render aid and assist with the investigation.

The third occupant and suspect driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the crash and is being actively sought by Law Enforcement.

The surviving passenger located at the scene was taken by Med-Flight to UW Hospital in Madison for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.
