CTH G Crash

On June 23, 2017 at approximately 10:16 p.m., the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a single vehicle traffic crash on CTH G near Ridge Road in the Town of Bear Creek.  The initial report was of a single vehicle rollover crash with multiple injured persons and possible entrapment.  Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, the Plain Fire Department, Plain Police Department, and numerous Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies were immediately sent to the scene.

The initial investigation revealed that a 1995 Chevrolet Pickup truck was traveling northbound on CTH G negotiating a curve in the roadway.  The truck was unable to negotiate the curve due to excessive speed.  The truck crossed the centerline and entered opposite ditch and shoulder.  The truck’s operator overcorrected and re-entered the roadway while rotating clockwise, which caused the truck to overturn.  The truck rolled on the roadway and came to rest in the east side ditch.

The truck’s operator was a 19-year-old man from Lone Rock, WI.  The passengers included three males and two females ranging in ages from 14 to 17 years old from Baraboo and Plain, WI.  Several passengers were ejected from the truck.  Two passengers were transported to UW Hospital by UW Med Flight.  The operator and two passengers were transported to local hospitals by ambulance.  The injuries are serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

Speed was a factor in this crash.  Unrestrained passengers contributed to the seriousness of injuries sustained.  Alcohol use by the operator is not a suspected factor.  The names of the operator and passengers are not being released at this time.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Plain Fire Department, Plain Ambulance, Lone Rock Ambulance, Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service, Baraboo District Ambulance Service, UW Med Flight, the Plain Police Department, and George’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.
