Bunker Drive Fatal Crash

On June 11, 2016 at approximately 5:24 p.m. the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received notification of a single vehicle traffic crash on Bunker Drive south of Hillman Road in the Town of Delton.  Initial information was that the operator of the vehicle was unconscious and still inside the vehicle.

Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Lake Delton Police Department Officers, Dells-Delton EMS, and the Delton Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.  The initial investigation revealed that a 2006 Pontiac Vibe was traveling westbound on Bunker Drive approaching a sharp right hand curve in the roadway.  The Pontiac failed to properly negotiate the curve and departed the roadway entering the west side ditch.  The Pontiac struck a large tree, sustained significant front end damage, and came to rest in the ditch.

The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle was a 23 year old female from Baraboo, WI.  The operator sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sauk County Coroner’s Office.  The name of the operator is being withheld pending notification of family.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the female operator was not wearing a seat belt.  Speed and failure to have control were contributing factors in this crash.  Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.  The crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Lake Delton Police Department, Dells-Delton EMS, Delton Fire Department, and the Sauk County Coroner’s Office.
