Baraboo Man Charged with Retail Theft

News Release

June 8, 2011

On May 5, 2011, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a theft from Pierces Pick N Save in West Baraboo. As a result of the investigation Ryan C. Hall, age 26, from Baraboo, was arrested for Retail Theft and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Revoked. A second subject, Carmelia L. Owens, age 22, from Chicago, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Valid DL.

The deputies’ investigation determined that Hall took merchandise from Pierces without paying for it. Upon leaving the store Hall entered a mini van and drove away with Owens as a passenger. The van was spotted by a City of Baraboo police officer in West Baraboo. The van went down a dead end street at which time Hall and Owens switched places. Owens then pulled out of the dead end and immediately lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole.

During the crash investigation, property was located in the van that was evidence of additional property crimes being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office. As a result of the evidence recovered from the van, the Sheriff’s Office has submitted reports to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office for review and charging decisions.
Anyone with information on these crimes or any other crime is encouraged to call the Sauk County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-TIP-SAUK (847-7285). Callers may be eligible for cash rewards and can remain anonymous.
