Airplane Crash

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On April 15, 2010 at 1736 hours, the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a single engine airplane crash that occurred in a field about 100 yards north of Pit Road, just south of the Baraboo Airport.

The preliminary investigation reveals that two airplanes were returning from Florida to Northern Wisconsin. The first one had landed at the airport and the second circled the area. While the second made a left bank turn to make his approach, witnesses state the plane tilted sideways and crashed into a plowed field just north of Pit Road. The single occupant plane was severely damaged in the crash. The pilot was extricated by Baraboo Fire Department personnel and was transported to St. Clare Hospital by Baraboo District Ambulance Service. The pilot received serious injuries in the crash.

There were heavy winds and rain at the time of the crash. FAA has been notified of the incident. The crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff's Department and officials from the FAA.

The pilot has been identified as William A. Reed, Jr., age 70, of Stevens Point.
