Law Enforcement Committee Minutes
DATE: January 12, 2010
The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at 10:00A.M., in room D102A Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.
The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.

- Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by Chair Donald Stevens at 9:30 A.M.
- Agenda: Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Montgomery, to adopt the agenda.
Motion carried.
- Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Sinklair, seconded by Halfen to approve the minutes from the December 8, 2009.

- Letter from Dept of Justice on the Tribal funds for 2010, Letter to Capt Kevin Fults from OJA re: 2nd grant approve $20,000.
- Dec 15 news release regarding the Drug Task Force search warrant, arrest for delivery of Cocaine,

- DOC prison population-Extended Supervision, we will be receiving the same contract for 2010.

- Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update:
- Animal Shelter took in 38 dogs and 48 cats in the month of December.
- The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 6 bite cases; 2 dogs and 4 cats.
- Discussion of possible ordinance regulating tobacco use in the Sauk County Jail.
- Committee suggested we should present a draft to the Clerk of Courts and District Attorney's on the possible Ordinance regulating tobacco use in the Jail to get their input.
- Review and approve December, 2009, expenses for Coroner:
- Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Montgomery, to approve payment of the Coroner's expenses for December 2009, in the amount of $3,474.63. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
- Review and approve December, 2009, expenses for Sheriff:
- Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Halfen, to approve payment of the Sheriff's Department expenses for December 2009, in the amount of $291,966.90. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
- Conduct annual statutory inspection of the Jail and Huber Center.
- Adjourn for Jail Inspection 10:54 am.
- Jail Report
- Final numbers are not in at this time. We are up 116 for housing for the year due to US Marshall inmates and extended supervision.
- Boarding other Jurisdictions for 2009, $2,202,401.7 has been collected in 2009.
- Administrative Report
- Discussed squad car traffic accidents involving two of our deputies.
- Field Services Report
- The Committee was given a copy of the Domestic Violence Liaison Position.
- Supervisor Sinklair asked to get a bid for the dash cameras for the remaining squads that do not have them.
- Kim Schulz has been hired as the new booking clerk.
- There were 105 prisoner transports in the month of December with the year to date total of 1812.
- Dispatch received 4, 444 calls for service in the month of December.
- Discussed Senate bill and Assembly bill relating to use and distribution of marijuana for medical use. Discussed a new Traffic Data Collection program that will be in effect January 2011. Collecting data on driver and all individuals in the vehicle to determine if racial profiling is a problem. This will result in traffic stops taking longer and people becoming more agitated during stops. Numbers will be down and warnings will be nonexistent.

- The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for February 9, 2010 at 09:30am. Motion by Halfen, seconded by Sinklair, to adjourn the meeting.
