Law Enforcement Committee Minutes


 

DATE: June 9, 2009

The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at 9:30 A.M., in room D102A Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.

 

The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.

1. Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by Chair Donald Stevens at 9:40 A.M.

2. Agenda: Motion to amend the agenda to move Item 17 to immediate follow Item 7. Motion by Tollaksen. Seconded by Montgomery. Motion carried. Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Sinklair, to adopt the agenda. Motion carried.

3. Approve Minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Sinklair, seconded by Tollaksen. Motion Carried. Minutes of Special Meeting from May 12 will be approved in July meeting.

4. Communications:

The Wisconsin Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Association conference agenda.

7. Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update. The Animal Shelter appeared and advised the committee that; Dog Walk was a large success bringing in over $19,000.

It was reported that 54 dogs came in and 77 cats came in.

*17. Consideration and approval of Resolution Recommending Continuation of Jail Operations Utilizing Unit A. Resolution discussed. Role Call Vote taken as requested by Chairman Stevens. Motion by Montgomery, seconded by Tollaksen. Montgomery-aye, Tollaksen-aye, Stevens-aye, Sinklair-nay. Motion carried.

Montgomery was excused from remainder of the meeting.

8. Review and approve May, 2009, expenses for Coroner and Sheriff

9. Consideration and approval of Resolution Denying Claim of Keramy Funmaker. Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Sinklair. Motion carried. Alene K. from Corporation Counsel address the committee regarding this issue.

10. Consideration and approval of Resolution Authorizing Reimbursement for Members of the Law Enforcement & Judiciary Committee for Attendance at the Wisconsin Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Association Conference.

Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Sinklair. Tollaksen-aye, Stevens-aye, Sinklair-nay. Motion carried.

11. Request to solicit bids for replacement prisoner transport van. Motion by Sinklair, seconded by Tollaksen to solicit bids. Discussion followed. Motion carried.

12. Request to solicit bids for replacement vehicle for the Detective division. . Motion by Sinklair, seconded by Tollaksen to solicit bids. Discussion followed. Motion carried.

13. Review and Discussion of Form 1.

14. Range Update. Chief Deputy Meister advised the Committee that the County received to responses in reference to the Request for Proposal that was sent out. Only one bid received in the amount of $46,000. Bid will be evaluated with a possible Resolution presented to this Committee in July.

15. Update on status of COPS grants. Captain Kevin Fults advised the Committee that the grant was submitted requesting 3 Utility Deputies. The Department should hear by September 30, 2009 on whether any funding will be awarded. Position request will be reviewed by a Joint Meeting of Finance and Personnel on Friday, June 12, 2009.

16. Update on status of Interoperability Radio Grant. Captain Fults and Phil Raab advised the Committee that they have submitted the grant paperwork to receive funding for 40 radios. Phil advised that the full funding may not be awarded as only $2,000,000 is left for local agencies.

There were 150 transports in May 2009.

In April 2009, there were 50.5 hours of administrative overtime of which 25 hours were Holiday.
