Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 9 AM by Chair Ashford

Certification of Open Meeting Notice

Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.

Approval of Agenda

Motion made by Tollakson, second by Wiese to approve the agenda. Motion carried.

Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting

Motion made by Wiese, second by Tollakson to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of September 24, 2009. Motion carried.

Public Comment

Paul Wolter reported that Orris Smith will no longer be with the Sauk County

Historical Society. Sue Teske will replace him.

Communications

Erickson reported that UWEX had received an award for the Outstanding Agency.

Ashford received a letter regarding the Highway 60 Scenic ByWay.

Ashford also had a copy of the Bennett newspaper article as well as the Wormfarm article..

Budget 2010 Discussion

Erickson gave an overview of the 2010 budget process to date.

SAUK COUNTY UW EXTENSION

Monthly Report/Review and Approval of Vouchers (UW Extension)

A motion was made by Tollakson, second by Stehling to approve the vouchers for the month of September in the amount of $59,243.86 (this figure includes the county's portion of the Agents contract). Motion carried.

UW Extension - Department Updates

Sue Nagelkerk reported on the WisLine Program that was held regarding the Arts Grants.

John Exo reported on the status of his job. He reported that the federal funds are available to the State of WI which will mean more work will be contracted for special projects. UW Extension will fund the balance from other sources for statewide projects from contracts.

Jenny Erickson reported on the work she had been doing with the Sauk County Comprehensive Plan. The result of working with this plan was that thousands had impact on the plan. The plan was written by a steering committee and not staff.

ARTS & CULTURE

Monthly Report/Review and Approval of Vouchers

No vouchers were submitted

Discussion and possible action on Good Idea Grants

A Good Idea Grant was submitted by Jane Canepa for $500.00 for publishing the book "The Canepa School of Dance". She wants to be able to provide all the Sauk County libraries with a copy. Motion made by Tollakson, second by Wiese to grant $500.00 for the publishing of the book. Motion carried.

Consider approal and possible action of request from Wormfarm Institute for a touring Smithsonian exhibition.

Donna Neuwirth and Jay Salinas talked about the Touring Smithsonian Exhibit which will be in Sauk County (Reedsburg) starting Oct. 20, 2010. They talked about the ways in which we can work together to promote this exhibit.

Consider and possible action on participation in the Governor's Christmas tree project honoring the 72 counties in Wisconsin.

A discussion was held on providing several postcards of Sauk County to be used on the Governor's Mansion Christmas Tree with the theme "Caroling in the Counties". It was decided that Jenny Erickson would get the two postcards (Devil's Lake and the Crane Foundation) to be submitted by Nov. 24.

Report from Erickson on the Wormfarm lecture on the arts and the economy

Jenny Erickson reported that she and Marcy Huffaker attended this seminar about a man that was living in a rural community setting and how he involved the arts in this community.

The December meeting will be re-scheduled for Friday, December 18, 2009 at 9 AM in the ETN Room of the West Square Building..
