Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 9 AM by Chair Ashford

Certification of Open Meeting Notice

Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.

Approval of Agenda

Motion made by Tollaksen, second by by Huffaker to approve the agenda. Motion carried.

Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting

Motion made by Huffaker, second by Wiese to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of April 23, 2009 and for the special meeting on April 2, 2009. Motion carried.

Public Comment

None.

Communications

A thank you was read from Jeff Evert, 2009 Alice in Dairyland Scholarship recipient.

A thank you was read from the Circus World Museum for receiving grant money.

SAUK COUNTY UW EXTENSION

Monthly Report/Review and Approval of Vouchers (UW Extension)

A motion was made by Wiese, second by Tollaksen to approve the vouchers for the month of April. Motion carried.

UW Extension - Department Updates

Sue Nagelkerk

Sue reported on the Art Appreciation program for child care providers that was partially funded by the UW Extension, Arts & Culture Committee. Sue also reported on the program "Gingerbread Concert" with Ken Lonnquist. This program was also partially funded the the UW Extension, Arts & Culture Committee. Cowonomics program was explained including that it will be held one week at the Westside Elementary School in Reedsburg and on the Baraboo/Sauk County Campus another week.

Jenny Erickson

Jenny talked about the SCIL program. There are 20 in the class in 2009. She also talked about the SCIL Board that is made up of 14 members. They are a working board. She asked for input from the committee about a class project.

Sandy Miskowiak-Larsen

Sandy introduced John Lendved, our Summer 4-H Intern. He gave a short report. Sandy explained the Expansion & Review Process including 4-H projects, members and leaders.

All

Our committee and staff will serve ice cream on June 16th before the County Board of Supervisors meeting to celebrate "June is Dairy Month".

Wiese/Stehling plan to attend

WACEC Annual/Summer Meeting in Columbia County - August 24, 2009

Just a reminder to put this on their calendar. We hope Sauk County will be well represented.

New Budget Form 1

It was announced that both UW Extension and Arts & Culture will have to have their forms finished by the next meeting (June 25). It will be discussed further at the next meeting.

ARTS & CULTURE

Monthly Report/Review and Approval of Vouchers

Motion made by Tollaksen, second by Huffaker to approve. Motion carried.

Good Idea Grants

There were two Good Idea Grants reviewed: Loganville Area Fire Department and Baraboo Range Preservation Association.

Loganville Area Fire Department (requested $500.00): This application was discussed and it was decided to deny the request. Motion by Wiese, second by Ashford. Motion carried. However, it was further discussed and it was decided to grant them $250.00. Motion by Stehling, second by Huffaker to award them $250.00. Motion carried.

Baraboo Range Preservation Association (requested $300.00): This grant will be used to purchase high resolution reproductions of selected H.H. Bennett images from the Wisconsin Historical Society. After some discussion a motion was made by Tollaksen, second by Huffaker to award them the $300.00 that was requested. Motion carried.

Chair's Report

Ashford reported that the Wisconsin Counties Meeting would be held in July.

She also reported on a meeting she had with Kathy Schaauf about hiring outside help for the grants programs. This idea is on hold right now.

Report from Orris Smith and SCHS Curator, Sue Teske

Orris talked about Dr. Robert Dewel's historical articles that he has written over the years. They have now been put into book form filling three books. It was reported that the libraries will be a distrubition point for these books. All three books will be distributed to other libraries by the Baraboo Library. Other items discussed included the celebration at Hulbut Creek, the 150th Birthday celebration for Belle Case LaFollette and History on Wheels project. Sue Teske reported on the 4-week course for schools called "Sauk county Investigation". It was very well received. She passed around pictures.

How to approach the Form 1 mission and goals for 2010 as reqired by Administrative Coordinator

After some discussion it was decided that Ashford would meet with Jenny Erickson to go over the form.
