Arts, Humanities, and Historic Preservation Minutes



DATE: December 14, 2007

The regular meeting of the Sauk County Arts, Humanities and Historic Preservation Committee was called to order and certification of Open Meeting compliance was given at 1:15 p.m. by Art Carlson.

Members present: Arthur Carlson, Dale Loomis, Molly Arbogast, Judy Ashford, Rose White
Members excused: Peter Tollaksen, Tommy Lee Bychinski
Others present: Orris Smith, Alison Duff, Tracy Madison, Dale Jaedike

The agenda was approved on a motion by White, second by Ashford, and a unanimous vote of the Committee.
The minutes of the prior meeting were approved on a motion by Ashford, second by Loomis, and a unanimous vote of the Committee.

Public Appearances / Public Comment
Alison Duff requested $2000 for the Sauk Prairie Conservation Alliance to be used to print a guide book to be used during the Badger Army Ammunition Plant tour which is part of the Sauk Prairie Fences Expo. Motion made by Ashford, second by Loomis to approve giving The Sauk Prairie Conservation Alliance $1000, and the remainder of the 2007 carry forward amount to the River Arts Center. Approved.

Communications
Discussed the Wisconsin Counties Magazine's article on the Arts and Public Policy, and the references to the Sauk County Arts, Humanities and Historic Preservation Program.

Business Items:
Discussion Art Carlson's presentation to the County Board regarding the work of the AHHP Committee
Motion made by White, second by Ashford to endorse the presentation. Approved.

Discussion of the UW Extension partnering with the Committee to offer a Grant Writing Class prior to the annual grants being due in February
Motion made by Carlson, second by Ashford to approve of the class being offered. Approved.

Discussion of holding the annual photo contest in 2008
Motion made by Ashford, second by Arbogast to hold the contest in May of 2008, with the same theme as previous years, and the same award amounts ($100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place). Approved.

Updates:
Artist Registry - None.
Mini grant requests. - UW Baraboo/Sauk County request for $500 to help with the cost of acquiring 1920s period clothing for a play which is being written. Motion made by Ashford, second by White to postpone the request until the next meeting, for consideration as part of the 2008 budget. Approved.

Motion made by Loomis, second by White approving vouchers of $5500.00, with a unanimous committee vote.

Meeting adjourned on a motion by Ashford second by Carlson, with a unanimous committee vote.
Next meeting date was set for 1:15 p.m. on January 11, 2008, in Room 213, West Square Building.
