UW Campus Commission Meeting Minutes

Members Present: Wedekind, Mielke, Haugen, Lombard, Geimer, Will, Liston, Brophy, Janke, Giese.

Chairperson Wedekind called the meeting to order at 9:00 A.M. and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was verified.

Motion by Geimer, seconded by Lombard to approve the agenda for today’s meeting, as mailed.
Motion carried.

Robert Janke requested a correction be made to the minutes of the October 20, 2005 meeting to reflect a bid amount of $8,175.00 for the library security system. Motion by Lombard, seconded by Geimer to approve the minutes with the foregoing correction.
Motion carried.

Financial Report:

Cheryl Giese, City Clerk, distributed a financial report from 1/1/05 to 11/31/05 which indicated an unencumbered balance of $47,595.29.

Maintenance Report and Approval of Bills:

In the absence of Robert Griffith, Dean Brophy presented the monthly maintenance report and list of bills. Motion by Will, seconded by Lombard to approve the report and list of bills in the amount of $3,195.10.
Motion carried.

Dean’s Report:

Dean Brophy reported on the following items:

• An end of year funds request, in the amount of $5,200.00 (estimate), to complete networking and electrical work necessary for the installation of computers in the library was discussed. Concern was expressed regarding availability of proper lighting and ventilation in the room of the proposed location; the Dean assured Commission members adequate lighting is available and offered to check on the ventilation and electrical capacity. Motion by Will, seconded by Lombard to authorize the Dean to proceed in obtaining bids for this project, with final consideration and approval being made next month’s meeting, providing sufficient funds are available. Motion carried.
• Sauk County has adopted the 2006 budget, which contained $100,000 to fund the initial startup process for the Living and Learning Center. The Dean has met with County representatives who have suggested a resolution of support be brought forth from the Campus Commission which would include details regarding administration, financing, and other procedural matters. The County Corporation Counsel will attend a future meeting to give further details of the resolution.
• Commission members were reminded and encouraged to attend a performance of “Lady Luxury” this weekend, a comedic operetta commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Al Ringling Theater.

Report on Bidding Procedures:

No report.

Breakdown in Cost on Action Electric Bill for Work Previously Done in the Theatre and Library:

A cost breakdown from Action Electric was received and reviewed by Commission members. The invoice showed theater costs of $1,140.00 in labor and $386.14 for material and library costs of $480.00 in labor and $888.51 for material; $1,000.00 was the original work estimate. Motion by Lombard, seconded by Will to approve the additional amount for theater work (the entire invoice amount was included and approved with last month’s bills). Motion carried.
Motion by Will, seconded by Lombard to adjourn and set the next, regular meeting date for Thursday, December 15, 2005 at 9:00 A.M. Motion carried and the meeting adjourned at
9:25 A.M.
