Arts, Humanities, and Historic Preservation Meeting Minutes


The regular meeting of the Sauk County Arts, Humanities and Historic Preservation Committee was called to order and certification of Open Meeting compliance was given at 1:00 p.m. by Art Carlson.

Members present: Arthur Carlson, Rose White, Judy Ashford, Lola Huber, Henry Netzinger, Peter Tollaksen, Jay Salinas

Members excused: none

Others present: Kathy Schauf, Peter Shrake, Michael Brophy

The agenda was approved on a motion by Netzinger, second by White, and a unanimous vote of the Committee. The minutes of the prior meeting were approved on a motion by White, second by Ashford, and a unanimous vote of the Committee.

Communications

A. Carlson reported on the successful season experienced by American Players Theatre. Perspectives magazine available in the office of the Administrative Coordinator. Letter from Kevin Calkins, ART Friends requesting additional funding for the Lady Luxury project.

Business Items:

J. Ashford requested that all requests for possible funding be heard prior to consideration of a motion for funding.

Consideration of request for funding from the University of Wisconsin Baraboo - Lady Luxury

Dean Brophy presented final budget numbers and the request for additional funding. Distributed a letter of support from Larry McCoy.

Consideration of a request for funding by the Sauk County Historical Society for historical documentary.

P. Shrake presented on behalf of the Badger History Group. Knowing that the issuance of funds at this time would preclude application for in the 2006 grant process, the request was withdrawn.

Discussion and consideration of the Courthouse Committee budget for 2005 / 2006.

P. Shrake provided an update budget for the Courthouse Committee 2006 events.

Motion by Ashford, second by Huber to fund the University Lady Luxury project $3,200, and $800 for the continuance of the Courthouse Committee projects. Discussion followed. Motion by Ashford, second by Huber to rescind the previous motion and to fund the University Lady Luxury project $3,200, and carryforward remaining 10999513 funds for the continuance of the Courthouse Committee projects in 2006.
Motion carried.

Consideration of contract for playwright services.

Motion by Tollaksen, second by Netzinger to approve the contract for playwright services.
Motion carried.

Consideration of contract language for allocation of budgetary appropriation.

A request to postpone this agenda item until January was made. Motion by Tollaksen, second by Netzinger to postpone until additional information is available. Motion carried.

Updates:

Artist Registry - No new applications to consider.

County Courthouse - The subcommittee reported on current events being planned.

Inventory of Historic County documents - On hold.

Humanities Speakers - Catalog for 2006 speakers was distributed to committee members.

Historic Preservation Month - A photographic contest is anticipated for 2006.

Cultural Resources Directory - January draft is being anticipated.

No vouchers to approve. Meeting adjourned on a motion by White, seconded by Tollaksen, with a unanimous committee vote. Next meeting date was set for 1:00 p.m. on January 13, 2006, Room 213 of the West Square Building.
