Property & Insurance Committee Meeting Minutes

- Meeting called to orderby Hartje at 9:00 a.m. Certification of compliance with Open Meeting Law was met.
- Adopt agenda:Motion by Dippel, second by Volz, to approve agenda.
Carried.
- Adopt minutes: Motion by Dippel, second by Volz, to approve last month's minutes.
Carried.
- Communications -
Request from Downtown Baraboo, Inc. To use the Courthouse lawn on October 30, 2004 for Boo-Fest, along with access to power on the east side courthouse steps and to place a banner for this event on the southeast corner from October 16-31, 2004.
Motion to approve by Volz, second by Hartje. Carried.
- Business Items
- Treasurer - Requests to sell off a 2.45 acre parcel in Dellwood. Motion by Volz, second by Dippel to proceed with the sale of the land. Carried. Request to lower the price of a 50' x 50' parcel in the Village of Merrimac, in order to sell it off. Motion by Dippel, second by Volz to lower the price of the property so it can be sold. Carried.
Presented a Resolution to run the deeds of eight other pieces of property and advertise them. Crowley has tried to contact the owners to no avail. Motion to take the Resolution to the County Board by Kruger, second by Volz. Carried.
- Joe VanBerkel of Land Conservation talked about the disposal of 20.5 acres of land in the Town of Franklin. The DNR is interested in this land. The idea is to sell the parcels at public auction. Stieve suggested trading off this property for land in Whitemound Park for a tower site and VanBerkel will see what the options are and get back to the Committee.
- Departmental Updates - Carl Gruber, Risk Management
- Monthly Report - took quote on the Physical Job Analysis that's to be performed at the Sheriff's Dept and is currently waiting to hear back from 2 people; performed random drug tests at Highway; added mobile command post and tower to insurance policy; ordered safety supplies; handed out new safety manuals to various departments; continued organizing the County auction, and as of this date has already taken place; worked on 7 workers comp cases; worked on 3 open liability cases; attended HCC Safety Committee meeting; checked on coating projectings at Highway; updated all of our OSHA 300 logs; handed out safety manuals at Health Care Center and had classes on the AED; worked on getting safety manuals onto the Intranet; worked on getting Triple I form onto our e-mail system; met and spoke with HR Director of Columbia County
- Review & approval of deductibles - Motion to approve deductibles totalling $539.95 by Dippel, second by Volz.Carried.
- Gruber discussed the County local government property insurance fund and asked the Committee if they would like to keep the deductible at $50,000 or lower it. Motion by Hartje, second by Krueger to maintain the $50,000 deductible. Carried.
- Departmental Updates - Tim Stieve, Buildings & Safety
- Monthly Report - spent about 30 hours on phone problems, adds and changes; phone upgrades completed during August; the flower bed at the West Square building has been removed by Highway and they will handle the entire project. Stieve was asked by the Committee to look into the cost of color concrete, which he will do; working on possible solution for slippery floors at the LEC; the County auction was held last Friday, September 10 and totaled $3,710.70 of which $1,000.00 goes back to Highway.
Stieve gave a status on the communications project, which lead into a discussion on the towers.
- Review and approval of vouchers - Motion by Volz, second by Dippel to approve monthly vouchers totalling $115,210.33. Carried.
