The regular meeting of the Sauk County Arts, Humanities and Historic Preservation Committee was called to order and certification of Open Meeting compliance was given at 1:00 p.m. by Dorothy Williams.
Members present: Arthur Carlson, Carol Sorg, Dorothy Williams, Valerie McAuliffe, Lola Huber
Members absent: Henry Netzinger, John Bernien
Others present: Kathy Schauf, Rodney Williams, Peter Shrake
The minutes of the prior meeting were approved on a motion by Carlson, second by McAuliffe, and an unanimous vote of the Committee. The agenda was approved on a motion by McAuliffe, second by Sorg, and an unanimous vote of the Committee.
It was noted that the Sauk County Fair would be celebrating their 150th Anniversary this year.
There is a showing of the photography of Tom Michelle at the AmCore Building (Stage III) through February.
A reminder that Arts Day in Madison is March 3, 2004.
Motion by McAuliffe, second by Carlson to continue membership with the Wisconsin Assembly of Local Arts Agencies. Motion carried.
Historic Preservation Week 2004 is the week of May 1-9, 2004. Committee members discussed activities for the 2004 celebration. Motion by Carlson, second by Huber to begin preparations for an essay contest to be held in conjunction with the schools. Motion carried.
Committee members will also participate as volunteers in the hands on living history project begun last year and carried out by the Sauk County Historical Society.
Discussion over expansion of existing web site to include a directory highlighting the work of local artist, and another highlighting historic properties in the county. Policy review and an update on MIS Committee response will be given.
A press release will go out and we will create a brochure alerting artists of the opportunity.
Committee members discussed individuals who would be willing to serve as possible panelists from their respective communities.
The subcommittee preparing for the 100 year celebration for the Sauk County Courthouse is continuing with research. It is hoped that by May a more solid plan of activities as well as a decision on whom to involve will be prepared.
Motion by McAuliffe, second by Carlson to approve vouchers in the amount of $1,231.34. Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned on a motion by Carlson, seconded by McAuliffe, with an unanimous committee vote. Next meeting date was set for 1:00 p.m. On February 13, 2004, in room 213 of the West Square Building.
