I asked for a 72 hour No Contact order The 72 hours has expired but we still can not have contact WHY?
In a domestic abuse case the Court normally extends the “No Contact” order as an additional condition of the defendant’s bond. This means that you can not have any contact with the Defendant until the case has been completely resolved. For information on how to request modification of that bond condition, you should contact the Sauk County Victim Witness Unit, (608)355-3281, or stop at the office during business hours with a photo ID.
Can I ask to have the charges “dropped”?
In most cases, the answer is “no”. In a criminal case, the State of Wisconsin is the Plaintiff. The District Attorney is representing and prosecuting individuals on behalf of all of the people of the State. The State and the accused are the parties in a particular case. It would be up to the parties to request dismissal of the action.
I already gave law enforcement a statement Why do I have to testify in person?
The Court requires that you appear to give testimony in person.You can never be forced to say anything that incriminates YOU, but if you have information about any other crime you are required to truthfully answer all questions.
Why has this case been reset so many times?
There are many reasons that cases get reset. You may not be the only witness in a case and the others may be unavailable on a particular date. The parties in the case may be unavailable on a certain date. The Courts handle hundreds of cases every year. They must often prioritize their calendars. Sometimes it is simply impossible for all of the cases to be heard on one day.

Any additional statements or evidence should be provided to the law enforcement agency that made the original report. You should refer to the agency case number when contacting them.

If the offender was placed on probation or put in prison you should contact the Department of Corrections, Division of Probation and Parole, (608) 355-3840.

If the offender was on a juvenile order you should contact the Sauk County Department of Human Services, (608) 355-4200.

If the offender was placed in jail you should contact the Sauk County Victim Witness Unit, (608) 355-3281.

If a civil judgment was entered on your behalf you would need to collect the restitution on your own. You can obtain forms for that at the Clerk of Courts office A private attorney may also be helpful in this instance.
