- Q) Is funding available to assist me in installing soil conservation or water quality practices?
- A) Yes, there are currently two cost-sharing funds in the county.The Dell Creek Priority Watershed Project has funds available to assist you and are currently signing contracts for practice installation. The Dell Creek Priority Watershed Project is focused in the towns of Delton and Dellona. The Land & Water Resource Management Program has cost-share funding available for practices installed throughout Sauk County. Contact the Sauk County Land Conservation Department for program information and eligibility criteria.
- Q) Am I required to prepare and follow a conservation plan?
- A) Any federal and state programs require participants to develop and follow a conservation plan to remain eligible for program benefits. Some programs require a plan on land you own while some federal programs also require plans on rented land. The Sauk County Land Conservation Department can advise you of specific program requirements.
- Q) What do you mean when you refer to tolerable soil loss levels?
- A) Soil loss tolerance "T" is the average annual erosion rate that can occur with little or no long term degradation of the soil resource on the field. Soil loss tolerance values "T" are assigned to each soil type.
- Q) Can I change the crop rotations and tillage practices outlined in my conservation plan?
- A) A conservation plan contains a record of your management decisions concerning crop rotations, tillage methods, conservation practices, and many other resource decisions you have made for your farm. A conservation plan always can be modified to reflect changes in your farm management provided soil loss is kept within tolerable levels.
- Q) What conservation programs are available?
- A) Contact the Sauk County Land Conservation Department for questions concerning programs and services available. County staff will review the resource management initiatives available at the local, state, and national level, and will refer you to the appropriate county, state, or federal agency should you be interested in further information about a specific program they administer.
