- Q) I want an attorney to represent me, but I can not afford one.
- A) To see if you qualify for a State Public Defender, you must contact that Agency, which is located at 107 Third Street, 2nd fl.,in the City of Baraboo. The phone number for that Agency is (608) 355-3180.
- Q) I have a ticket and would like to talk to the D.A.
- A) The Court will automatically schedule a Pretrial Conference for any person who enters a not guilty plea. You and/or your attorney will be able to confer with the D.A. at that time. In all cases, if you have obtained a private attorney or the court has ordered a public defender to represent you, our office can not speak to you without your attorney present.
- Q) But, what if I don't want to enter a not guilty plea?
- A) The D.A. will not be able to confer with you until a full set of investigative law enforcement reports is received. Often a complete set of reports is not received until a not guilty plea is entered.
- Q) Can I enter a plea to the Court via mail?
- A) Yes. ONLY if you are charged with a forfeiture offense, which is not considered a crime. Such as speeding Ticket/Citation. All Criminal Court hearings are MANDATORY appearances.
- Q) I would like to request discovery for my case. (A copy of all investigative law enforcement reports)
- A)The reports may be obtained after a charging decision has been made and
criminal complaint has been filed. The D.A.'s Office charges 30 cents plus
postage & tax for each page copied.
- Q) I would like to report a crime. Can you investigate this crime?
- A) No, our office does not investigate crimes. You must report all crimes to your local police department or the Sauk County Sheriff's Department.
- Q) I need an extension to pay my court fine.
- A) You need to contact the Clerk of Court's Office for all issues regarding payments of fines.
- Q) There is a warrant for my arrest. How can I take care of it?
- A) A bail hearing is scheduled everyday by one of the Circuit Court Judges, Monday through Friday at 2:30 p.m.. You must appear at that time. Or if you would rather, in all non-felony cases only, you can pay the amount of bond at any local police department. Please NOTE that occasionally the Court may change the time of bail.
- Q) I lost my drivers license. How can I get an Occupational Driver's License?
- A) You need to contact the Department of Transportation. DOT
