Sauk City


Chartered as a village in 1854, it takes its name from an Indian village built on the site in the 1740's. This view of South Water street in 1908. Note the lone automobile left of center and the unpaved roads of the day

This view of South Water Street was taken ca. 1930's. Sauk City is the oldest incorporated village in Wisconsin. Noted author, August Derleth called Sauk City home and wrote 150 books and thousands of newspaper and magazine articles.
