The area was settled by James W. Babb in 1845, and the city named after
David C. Reed, who owned much of the land in the early village.
This 1908 photo shows the north side of Main St. The building at left
(here Thiemann Drug Store) was removed to make way for the Reedsburg Bank.
Brick paved streets were a common site in town during this era.
Built in 1896 at a cost of $20,000, the Hotel Stolte also housed a drug
store, telephone exchange, baggage and reading rooms, a dining room, kitchen,
pantry and serving room. Sporting 39 rooms, the hotel has been a landmark
in the city since its construction. Purchased by Scott Huntley in 1915
and named the Huntley Hotel, it was again sold in the mid-1970's and became
the Cornerstone in 1983.
