This 1908 photo highlights the business district
of the village. Here depicted is the Meat Market and public telephone
pay station. Barrel staves were produced here with the water powered mill,
and shipped to Reedsburg and Sandusky.

First settled in the late 1850's, Lime
Ridge took its name from a nearby ridge of lime stone. A dam and
sawmill were located here which led to early settlement. The
stagecoach line split here, with one route going to Reedsburg, the
other to LaValle and Ironton. The hotel, depicted here in 1908, was
built in the early 1900's, and was popular with traveling salesmen.
