Larue

The Illinois Iron mine was located near LaRue, ca. 1907. Iron was discovered here around the turn of the century with the potential of great reserves. Forty feet below the surface, ore with 53% iron content was mined and shipments began in 1904. By 1914 the digging had reached a depth where the mines were being flooded and the iron age in that area came to an end.
