Nancy Schmid

Sauk County Wisconsin

Nancy has lived with husband Allan in a log home in the Northeast Baraboo Bluffs since 1984. The joy of this life involves gardening, building Vermont rock walls and creating quilts for those she loves.

Embroidery, begun in childhood, evolved into exhibitions with the "Unique Boutique" in Mt. Prospect, Illinois for eight years with 50 Northwest Suburban Artists. Quilting began in 1982.

A traditionalist, Nancy prefers the quiet colors, fabrics and patterns of the past; often combining them with contemporary ideas and wildflower embroidery. Her designs are sparse, minimizing the numbers of fabric patterns and colors, while maximizing the quilt's strength. She likes quilts that belong on a bed or compliment the existing art on the walls. The result is a warm combination of old-feeling quilts and the paintings of her father-in-law Albert; husband Allan (see link below) and son Paul; and David-photographer, two granddaughters have "gotten into the act" by creating designs she has quilted. Her "professional" achievements involved awards with the Sauk County Fair, Sun Prairie Heritage Quilt Exhibition, Reedsburg and Sauk City Exhibitions, Personal exhibits in Susie's Restaurant, the Shadow Box Gallery, the Jura Silverman Gallery in Spring Green, St. Clare Hospital and Wisconsin Public Television!
