John Skille

John Skille is a graduate from the University of Minnesota - Duluth, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Art. John taught art for 37 years before retiring and moving to Sauk County. His most recent work has been inspired by the natural beauty of Sauk County - particularly the area around Devil's Lake. His years of teaching art have provided him experience in a variety of media, but his personal preference is for oil painting and drawing.

John has always been challenged by the problems of rendering the realistic image, and his work is usually more realistic than abstract. In spite of this, his preoccupation in all of his work is with the content or message. John feels that "accurate" drawing and painting are necessary tools, but a good work of art must have a meaning; a feeling, a message, something to inspire and illuminate our lives.
